The total number of registered PLE candidates was 4,860 pupils. Of the total number of registered candidates, 48.8% were males and 51.2 % were females implying that the district had more female candidates than male candidates.

The Sex ratio of registered candidates was 96 Male candidates for every 100 female candidates in Government UPE schools. For Private Primary schools the sex ratio was 81 Male candidates for every 100 female candidates. The overall sex ratio was 95 Male candidates for every 100 Female candidates.

The biggest proportion 93.6% of candidates sat their PLE in Government Aided (UPE) Schools. This is a good indicator of Education service delivery in Kiruhura District especially highlighting public trust in Universal Primary Education.

Kiruhura District was ranked number 35th in all the District of Uganda in PLE performance for the year 2015.

A total of 4,860 candidates registered for PLE in the year 2015.

A total of 138 (2.8) candidates that had registered did not turn up for the examinations at their respective centers.

The total number of candidates that sat PLE in Kiruhura was 4,722. (91.2%) of all registered candidates

The results were as follows: 6.3% obtained Grade I, 52.4% obtained Grade II, 24.8% obtained Grade III, 8.8% obtained Grade IV while 4.9% were Ungraded (Failed)

The overall Results based on the imposed polynomial trend line in the figure above show that Schools in Nyabushozi County Performed better than those of Kazo County. From the table it is clear that Nyabushozi County had a proportion of 7.6% passing in grade 1 compared to 5.1% of Kazo County. Combining the results means that 64.9% of the total registered Candidates  in Nyabushozi County Passed in grade 1and 2 compared to 53.4% in Kazo County.  Failure rate in Kazo County was 6.4% compared to 3.3% in Nyabushozi County. Overall the male pupils performed better than their female counterparts in both Counties.

For the year 2015, The District declined in PLE performance compared to the last five years (Since 2010). The District registered the least proportion of pupils passing in Grade 1 (6.3%) in the preceding 5 years. The District also registered a decline in the proportion of pupils passing in Grade 2 (52.4%) which is the worst compared to results of the last 5 years.

 

Failure rate of 4.9% is the worst compared to the last five years. Whereas there wasn’t a significant difference between 2014 and 2015 in terms of absentee candidates at the time of sitting PLE exams, the proportion of absentees increased to 2.8% from 2.7% in 2014.
